Christ the King Centenary Celebration: A Global Eucharistic Unity Movement

Viva Cristo Rey!

GLOBAL EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION

In February 2025, the small Irish city of Derry made history by hosting the world’s first global Eucharistic procession on the feast of St. Bridget. Over 5,000 devoted individuals walked in unity and love for the Eucharistic King, with over 70 parishes across six continents joining simultaneously—from Cities such as Rome, Medjugorje, Portugal, Perth, New York, Mexico City, Paris and many more. This groundbreaking event signified a resurgence of Ireland’s historical role as Guardians of the Faith.

Now, as we approach November 2025, Derry is set to make history once again with the second worldwide Eucharistic procession. This event will commemorate 100 years since Pope Pius XI established the feast of Christ the King with the encyclical Quas Primas. Pope Pius XI initiated this feast to remind the world of Jesus Christ’s kingship during an era of growing secularism and to encourage submission to His rule in all aspects of life, from individuals to nations. On November 23, the Feast of Christ the King, we invite all of Christendom to come together in unity. Clergy and laity from every Christian nation are called to join Derry, celebrating a shared faith and love for Christ the King, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and Prince of Peace.

This procession offers a unique opportunity to showcase to the world that our parishes and nations honor Christ as their sovereign leader. We invite people from all around the globe to join Derry in walking as a testament to our Catholic faith, honoring the sacrifices of our forefathers who preserved the faith for future generations.

In these times, as many face anxiety, mental health challenges, and societal pressures, Derry’s Eucharistic procession offers a beacon of hope and an opportunity to stand resiliently against adversity while affirming our spiritual beliefs. As part of this annual event, our Eucharistic King is carried by boat through the local river Foyle, pausing briefly at its three bridges to remember the three falls of Jesus on His way to Calvary. This unique procession allows walkers to witness the Bishop and clergy from the riverbank, creating a powerful symbol of unity and faith.

Under the guidance of Bishop Donald McKeown, this Eucharistic procession serves as a testament to global unity and love. We warmly invite cities and communities worldwide to join this movement, igniting hearts with the Eucharistic flame of hope and love, and affirming that there is but one true King—Christ the King.
